چکیده

The OPERA long-baseline neutrino oscillation experiment is located in the underground Gran Sasso laboratory in Italy. OPERA has been designed to give the first direct proof of ντ appearance, looking at the CNGS νμ beam 730 km away from its source at CERN. The apparatus consists of a large set of emulsion-lead targets combined with electronic detectors. First runs in 2007 and 2008 helped checking that detector and related emulsion facilities are fully operational and led to successful first analysis of collected data. This paper, after a short description of the OPERA setup and methods, gives an updated status report on data reconstruction and analysis applied to available samples of neutrino events.

The neutrino flavour oscillations hypothesis has been confirmed by several experiments, all are based on the observation of the disappearance of a given neutrino flavour. The long baseline neutrino experiment OPERA (Oscillation Project with Emulsion tRacking Apparatus) aims to give the first direct proof of the τ neutrino appearance in a pure muon neutrino beam (CERN Neutrinos to Gran Sasso bea...

Searching for neutrino oscillations with OPERA

The OPERA experiment will search for neutrino oscillations using a muon neutrino beam and a hybrid emulsion-scintillator detector. Basic principles, current status and expected performance of the experiment are discussed.

The OPERA Long Baseline Experiment: Status and First Results

OPERA (Oscillation Project with Emulsion tRacking Apparatus) is an international collaboration between Europe and Asia, aiming to give the first direct proof of tau neutrino appearance in a pure muon neutrino beam, in order to validate the hypothesis for atmospheric neutrino oscillations. The first european long baseline neutrino beam called CNGS is produced at CERN and sent in the direction of...

The OPERA Experiment

OPERA(Oscillation Project with EmulsiontRacking Apparatus) is a new detector concept, iron(lead)emulsion for a long-baseline neutrino oscillation experiment. This experiment would perform an appearance search for υμ−υτ oscillation in the parameter region indicated by the atmospheric neutrino anomaly. OPERA can run at the Gran Sasso Laboratory in the proposed NGS (Neutrino to Gran Sasso) Beam fr...

Status of the OPERA experiment

The OPERA experiment in the underground Gran Sasso Laboratory (LNGS) has been designed to perform the first detection of neutrino oscillations in direct appearance mode in the muon to tau neutrino channel. The detector is hybrid, being made of an emulsion/lead target and of electronic detectors. It is placed in the CNGS neutrino beam 732 km away from the neutrino source. Runs with CNGS neutrino...
